In this 4-week, 3 credit faculty-led study abroad program, students will be immersed in the rich artistic, musical, and cultural capital of central Europe. Called both the “City of Music” and “City of Dreams,” Vienna has been an important economic, cultural, and political center for centuries and home to famous composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Strauss, as well as numerous influential painters, architects, musicians, and writers. Utilizing the city for its blend of historic majesty and contemporary vibrance, this program will provide the opportunity to learn about the Economics of Art, Music, & Culture in an inspiring and unique setting, to explore questions such as: What distinguishes art markets, as well as cultural, musical, and artistic goods? How do organizations such as museums, theatres, opera houses, orchestras, and art galleries operate and how have their roles within society and the economy evolved over time? Student will explore how arts and cultural sites contribute economically and shape urban development.
