Entrepreneurship and Empowerment in South Africa (EESA) is a 4-credit, 6-week summer study abroad program in South Africa. Led by Professor Michael Morris, a professor of Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation in the Keough School of Global Affairs. A widely published author, Dr. Morris has been recognized as one of the top twenty entrepreneurship professors in America. The EESA is a partnership between the University of Notre Dame, University of Florida, the University of Colorado, and the University of the Western Cape. The program is for highly motivated students who want to be agents of change. It provides a life-changing experience that enables students to help historically disadvantaged entrepreneurs in the townships around Cape Town, South Africa. Coached by four faculty members, American students collaborate with South African students on consulting teams, assisting small businesses over a six-week period to help make their ventures sustainable. Ventures range from catering and arts & crafts businesses to community newspapers and small construction companies.
