Welcome to Dublin! Fáilte go Baile Átha Cliath!
Dublin, the capital of the Republic of Ireland, with a population of one million, is a vibrant, friendly, safe, and welcoming city. The city boasts a dynamic cultural life manifested in its rich theatrical, musical, culinary, and sporting traditions. It boasts excellent galleries, museums, and libraries. Dublin is a compact city, with all the major attractions within comfortable walking distance. It is also a young city demographically speaking, with its social life geared to young people, including over 100,000 students in its many educational institutions.
Students studying abroad in Dublin will take ‘Introduction to Ireland’, a course taught by Professor Kevin Whelan, Director of the Notre Dame Dublin Global Gateway (DGG). They will be enrolled and conduct coursework at Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University College Dublin (UCD), or Dublin City University (DCU). Working with their DUS, advisors at Notre Dame, and the DGG, every student will curate a timetable that best complements their major(s) and/or minor(s). Programs at each university will allow students to be integrated thoroughly into their new universities by living on campus and taking classes with Irish and other international classmates. The DGG will advise, help, and mentor students so that they will feel supported both academically and socially. In Dublin, we prioritize cultural immersion, learning ‘through the soles of your feet’, and a deep dive into every aspect of Irish culture. Program field trips will introduce our students to this intimate but remarkably variegated island.
