Welcome to Dublin! Fáilte go Baile Átha Cliath!
Notre Dame’s programs in Dublin, Ireland are located throughout the city of Dublin, a capital city with an urban population of over 1 million people located on the Irish Sea. While it is regarded as a geographically small city with all the major museums and cites within walking distance of each other, the city has a rich cultural life manifested especially in its theater and traditional Irish and classical music, dance, and sport. Dublin also boasts excellent museums including the National Museum, with Celtic objects from the 8thand 9thcenturies, and the National Gallery of Paintings, which has a large collection of Irish artists. It is a young city, with over 100,000 college-age students in its many educational institutions.
All students studying abroad to Dublin will take a core course taught by Notre Dame Professor Kevin Whelan at the Notre Dame Dublin Global Gateway (DGG) and conduct coursework at Dublin City University (DCU), Trinity College Dublin (TCD), and University College Dublin (UCD). Working with their advisers at Notre Dame and in the DGG, students curate timetables to best complement their major(s) and/or minor(s). Programs at each location are immersive, allowing students to plunge independently into Irish life through Irish universities and culture, while still retaining the support typical of Notre Dame. As international students, undergrads participating in these programs integrate themselves into their new universities, living and studying with Irish and international classmates, while also taking courses exploring Ireland’s history, culture, and literature. We emphasize learning “through the soles of your feet” on program trips throughout the island.
