The city of Berlin, now considered Germany's cultural, political, and economic center, provides you with the opportunity to observe first-hand the emerging impact of a reunited Germany on the rest of Europe as you study at the renowned Freie Universität-Berlin. The founding motto of the Freie Universität Berlin, "Truth, Justice, Freedom," has shaped its history since 1948. With 42,500 students in approximately 90 different programs of study, the FU Berlin is the largest university in Germany's capital and one of the largest in the nation.

The program begins with a six-week language intensive German Discourse & Culture course to help familiarize you with German daily life and boost your language ability. Throughout your program, you will explore Berlin through guided tours of historical sites, theater performances, visits to federal institutions, and excursions to nearby cities such as Munich, Nuremberg, Bonn, and Weimar. While this program is particularly suited for students majoring in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, FU Berlin offers a wide range of courses applicable to most majors. All coursework will be in German with program tutors available to assist you with the transition to taking courses in the German university system. There is also ample opportunity to join one of the many student organizations connected to the universities in Berlin, pursue internships or volunteer throughout the city.
