Experience an enriching three-credit, four-week summer study abroad program at Kylemore Abbey, Ireland, focusing on Medical and Veterinary Parasitology. This immersive course combines hands-on laboratory work with field studies in the scenic landscapes of the Irish countryside. You'll explore parasitic diseases affecting both humans and animals. Set within the historic and tranquil environment of Kylemore Abbey, this program provides a blend of academic rigor and cultural enrichment. The course prepares the student to integrate terminology and processes from medicine (anatomy and physiology), public health, and other interdisciplinary topics as it relate to the study of parasites. In this course, students will have the opportunity to discuss the parasites of the major taxa, including Nematodes, Trematodes, Cestodes, Protozoa, and Arthropods, and consider the pathology, epidemiology, life cycles, prophylactic and therapeutic control issues of the individual parasites.
