Why did you choose this study abroad program? I’m very interested in the course that will be taught during my time abroad because I took a class called Race and Racism in science that briefly talked about the social construction of race in Brazil and how it differed from the US. Additionally, I’m heavily involved in latino dancing clubs on campus, but none have taught Brazilian dance styles like samba, so I’d love to immerse myself in Brazilian culture through dance. Considering that often Latinos are generalized, I want to travel to a country that I don’t know the language and cultures of; as a hispanic person myself, traveling to Brazil, a Latino country that doesn’t speak spanish, would offer an experience to further expand my knowledge and deepen my appreciation for the range of Latino cultures and experiences.
