Semester Program Funding

Notre Dame Global believes that study abroad is a unique opportunity for academic, personal, and intercultural growth. With generous support from alumni and donors, NDG Study Abroad is proud to offer funding to students in NDG-sponsored study abroad programs, for cultural enrichment opportunities while abroad. 

Funding Guidelines & Requirements

  • Funding is limited to students in NDG-sponsored study abroad programs.
  • A maximum of $400 will be awarded.
  • Funding will only be awarded for travel within a student's host country.
  • All students who are awarded funds are required to submit a written or video message of gratitude to the donor of the fund. The messages will be submitted to a member of the Notre DameGlobal team. Information about this submission process will be made available to students upon funds being awarded.
  • Funding cannot be used for:
    • Activities not covered by GeoBlue insurance ( i.e. renting a car or operation of a motor vehicle, scuba diving, hang gliding, bungee jumping, or other high risk activities).
    • Meals/food.

The funds below are for students who have been accepted into study abroad programs sponsored by Notre Dame Global.


Payton L. Celedinas Endowment for Excellence for International Studies

The Payton L. Celedinas Endowment for Excellence for International Studies advances Notre Dame's goals for internationalization by supporting the integration of academic, extracurricular, and cultural learning throughout the study abroad experience. The fund enables internships and other extracurricular activities that enrich the academic and cultural learning of students in non-English speaking NDI study abroad programs located in Europe.

Eligibility: 

  • All students studying abroad no matter their study abroad program, with priority given to those students with financial need.
  • Students studying abroad in the Alcoy, Angers, Berlin, Bologna, Geneva, Heidelberg, Paris-Sciences Po, or Toledo academic year/semester programs are encouraged to apply for this funding opportunity.
Palka/Reali Memorial Fund

The Palka/Reali Memorial Fund advances Notre Dame's goals for internationalization by supporting the integration of academic, extracurricular, and cultural learning throughout the study abroad experience. The fund supports extracurricular opportunities for students in NDG study abroad programs that enhance knowledge and awareness of cultures around the world and inspire students to examine their responsibilities as part of the world community.

Eligibility: 

  • All students studying abroad no matter their study abroad program, with priority given to those students with financial need.
  • Students studying abroad in the following programs are encouraged to apply for this funding opportunity: Beijing-PKU, Fremantle, Hong Kong-HKUST, Leuven, Mumbai, Norwich, Oxford, Paris-Sciences Po, Perth, São Paulo, Seoul, Shenzhen, Singapore, St. Andrews, Stellenbosch, Strathmore, Sydney, Tel Aviv, Tokyo-Keio, or Tokyo-Sophia academic year/semester programs.
Parikh Family Endowment for Excellence for Notre Dame Global

The Parikh Family Endowment for Excellence for Notre Dame Global advances Notre Dame's goals for internationalization by supporting the integration of academic, extracurricular, and cultural learning throughout the study abroad experience. The fund enables internships and other extracurricular activities that enrich the academic and cultural learning of students in NDG study abroad programs.

Eligibility:

  • All students studying abroad no matter their study abroad program, with priority given to those students with financial need.
  • Students studying abroad in the Amman, Jerusalem, Kigali, Puebla, Rabat, or Santiago academic year/semester programs are encouraged to apply for this funding opportunity.
John T. Ryan III Endowment for Excellence for Notre Dame Global

Established in 2023, this endowment supports the student life and enrichment of undergraduate students with financial need while traveling abroad, including but not limited to internships and study abroad opportunities, funds for travel while abroad, assistance with the fees and items needed to travel abroad, and support for students participating in summer study abroad programs.

Eligibility:

  • Students with high financial need, no matter their study abroad program

Application Information for Academic Year/Semester Programs

To be considered for one of the scholarships above, students must complete the general application. The deadline for this application is as follows:

  • Fall Semester Abroad - September 28
  • Spring Semester Abroad - March 6

These deadlines are the same regardless of program start dates.

John T. Ryan III Endowment for Excellence for NDI

--Special Consideration Scholarship
Students on financial aid are encouraged to apply for this scholarship when unique or unforeseen circumstances may require additional funding. Examples may include domestic travel requirements for visa applications, lost or stolen passport while abroad, or emergency accommodations. *Please note that international flight is supported by financial aid and thus doesn't qualify for this funding.

  • John/Patricia Fitzgerald Scholarship (France programs only) 
  • Fr. George Minamiki, S.J. Scholarship (Japan programs only)
  • Mary Ann & Patrick Toole Scholarship (Dublin programs only)
  • Mara Rose Fox Memorial Scholarship (Toledo program only)

*Eligibility is determined by the Office of Financial Aid. Eligible students will be invited to apply for these scholarships the semester prior to departure. Award amount will be determined by the student’s financial need.
