Religion, Peace and Development is a 3 week study abroad program in Uganda which offers students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural, religious, social, and economic realities of Uganda. Led by Ugandan native, Fr. Emmanuel Katongole, students will experience the beauty, wildlife, rich culture, and a “taste” of many of the other gifts from the “Pearl of Africa.” Through this program, students will gain a deeper understanding of the factors and histories that shape life on the African continent, more specifically the intersectionality between religion, peace and development. This is done through community engagement and service learning opportunities with the Bethany Land Institute’s programs focused on sustainable agriculture, ecological restoration and economic transformation of rural communities. Through this program, students have the opportunity to discover interesting themes and topics for possible future research.
