Kyoto is often regarded as a cultural and spiritual hub for the Japanese. With a history stretching back over 1,200 years, the city is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including various shrines and temples, such as Kinkaku-ji and, while not a World Heritage Site, Fushimi Inari is not to be missed. Like Tokyo, Kyoto is a city where ancient culture coexists with modern technology and entrepreneurship. The city is home to such companies as Nintendo, Kyocera, and Omron. It also hosts modern cultural facilities, including the Kyoto International Manga Museum.
This bilateral exchange program at Kyoto University offers students from the College of Science and College of Arts & Letters the opportunity to enroll in a wide variety of classes in English or Japanese alongside local and other international students.
